New Communications Strategy and Public Facebook Page
With the appointment of a Provincial Grand Registrar (W.Bro. Chris Hicks) with direct responsibility for our internal and external Communications Strategy, we are delighted to announce that a number of innovative changes and projects have been set up, which will see a change in the way you receive, and can submit, information. You will already have received at least one email from the Communications team and will be receiving more on a regular basis. From time to time there will also be polls, where you will be asked for your opinions on certain topics. To that event, it is vital that you ensure that you not only keep Lodge Secretaries updated with any email address changes but, also, ensure those changes are transmitted to the Provincial Office as well (there is a generic communications address in "Provincial Contacts" within the Members Section).
The Provincial Grand Secretary will continue to produce and circulate his Newsletter and this will continue to be delivered electronically to all Secretaries; it contains important information on administration and Provincial information. This may well be passed on to you in whole, or in part, depending on subject matter or discussed under the Risings at Lodge meetings.
Very shortly, this web site will undergo an update, very little will change visually, but the new server will make administration and management easier and will make the uploading of articles easier. This will be up and running in mid to late September, so make sure you submit as much as you can to us. If you want an upcoming event published, submit it. If you want an article published on an important meeting, submit it. Remember too, a picture paints a thousand words so take some photos and submit them too. Again, appropriate contact details are in the Members Section.
Secondly, and instantly visible, our Social Media footprint has had a reboot. The Province now has an Open Page on Facebook as well as the Closed Group. The Open Page is to be found at "Essex Mark & RAM: Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons" (if you enter Essex Mark and RAM in the Facebook search box, both sites will come up). Importantly, this means is that we will be able to tell the world of our open events, charity donations and achievements through the Open Page, while we can communicate in confidence with each other through the Closed Group.
Freemasonry is moving into a new era with much more public information and interaction being made available through all Masonic Orders. If you have made a charitable donation; want to publicise an event; are holding an open evening of some sort, then why not make it publicly available? YOU can write the post and, whilst it may be edited by the Communications Team, this is YOUR resource. Don't forget, a public page is not just reaching Essex Mark Masons, there are MMMs from other Provinces (London for example) living in Essex who might welcome the chance to visit a local Lodge to take part in an event. Not only that, it is visible to Craft Masons who may well just have their interest raised enough to enquire about being Advanced into Mark. The more you use it, the more you will get out of it, be creative!
To date the Closed Group on Facebook has 255 members (there are more of you out there, so join!) while the Open Page has already exceeded 200, with around 100 follows and likes. This means is that over 25% of Essex Mark Masons are communicating over Facebook, and almost 200 are receiving our messages. This is a good start, but please spread the word of our Social Media presence!
Security is NOT a problem, the Closed Group remains just that, whilst the presence of the group can be seen, the content cannot be accessed by anyone other than members who will have been previously approved as Essex Mark & RAM Masons.
Thirdly there will soon be a new project, “Make your Mark”. This is a newsletter promoting the events and news items happening in the Province. It is planned that this will be produced at least twice a year, and be circulated electronically. We are looking for content, both stories and pictures, and volunteers to help with the production. Watch this space for further information.
For those of you in the Twittersphere, we are using @PGLEssexMark; the PGM tweets information as @PGMEssexmark, follow him, keep updated and spread the word by retweeting. Twitter gets messages all round the world, additionally, there are many Essex Lodges and members who do the same for example the Prov Asst Secretary and Cornerstone President, James Tyrrell as @JTFreemason, my own Lodge on @Beaconsfield205, as does the GLMMM on @GLofMMM.
Give it a go, get involved, get your message out there.
