EASTER 2022 Eggs-Travaganza

Six brave Essex Mark Men returned to the quarries on Saturday 16 April, but this time it wasn’t for work but for pleasure.
The intrepid Mark Men were there to complete a zipline challenge fundraiser for the 2030 Festival, at Bluewater in Kent, a former quarry.
The idea was first suggested by Dave Todd, who had previously taken part in a wing walk for charity. He asked for willing volunteers, and they came forward willingly, although with trepidation.
The Keystone Fliers team consisted of our Deputy Provincial Grand Master, John Finlay, Provincial Secretary Paul Busby, Deputy Secretary Designate, Geoff Newman, Media Manager Dave Todd, Shop Manager Steve Joslin and Les Irving (amputee).They were also supported by their families and friends, to make the event more enjoyable, and relaxing for some of the fliers.

The day started with a slight hiccup as the Dartford Bridge was closed and several members of the team were caught up in the closure, whilst other members enjoyed a relaxing coffee at Bluewater shopping centre.
The weather was gloriously sunny and warm for Easter. Despite one or two of the team being slightly nervous about taking part in the zipline, it did not distract from the fun element of the day.
The team went flying in two groups and no one screamed on the way down as one member threatened to do so.

A fantastic event was then completed by a super evening meal and friendly get together at Rochford Hundred Golf Club. Our thanks to the staff who helped us to round off our fundraising day. We raised in excess of £6000. Final amount will be announced later in the year after all pledges and gift aid has been calculated. 47 members and guests enjoyed the celebration dinner. A splendid quality raffle raised a further £480 and a painting donated by a local Mark Mason artist raised another £70 at auction. Thanks again to the team….didn’t we do well!
